On the occasion of the visit to Lebanon by James O'Connor, executive director of Middle East advancement and external affairs at Syracuse University, the Beirut Alumni Chapter of SU held a dinner at the Gefinor Rotana Hotel in Beirut. Present at the dinner, along with a large group of alumni, friends and family, were Dr. Joseph Jabbra, president of the Lebanese American University; Dr. Nesreen Ghaddar, associate provost of the American University of Beirut; and representatives of the American Embassy in Lebanon and AMIDEAST-Lebanon.
The dinner provided an opportunity to showcase the level of excellence that Syracuse University graduates hold in the economic, academic and cultural sectors of Lebanon and the Arab World. It also opened new channels for the development of relations between the university and its alumni. In addressing the group, O'Connor emphasized the commitment of the university to the recruitment of students from the Middle East and the importance of investments in academic development and research at the university.
The event concluded with representatives of the alumni association honoring Hasan Al-Husseini, the senior Lebanese alumnus of Syracuse University who graduated from the School of Arts and Sciences in 1949.
